Hockey in Greenville |
Lead | |
|
If the rumors over the past few months are remotely true for the possibilty of a new hockey team in Greenville for the 09-10 season, would they not have to
start promoting it soon? I was thinking it would have to be announced as early as the beginning of the 08-09 season to get a solid season ticket holder base
(commitment). Also to get all the details worked out and to get all the promotions rolling. I have been patiently waiting for some kind of news. I miss hockey
in Greenville vewy vewy badly...! Anyone out there have any opinions on this?

I really don't know where you are getting dates etc...from, but I have not heard any of this.
As much as I miss the Grrrowl, unless things drastically change in the world I won't be seeing too many games in Greenville even if we do get a team back. With gas being what it is these days and the cost of everything else going through the roof, I wont be driving from Shelby too often for games. We might make weekend games, that would be about the extent of it. But with that being said I would still love to see hockey come back to our area. Maybe we could get a team in Shelby! "The Shelby Catfisters" (yes, that says "fisters"...look it up) Or, Columbia had the "inferno", we could be the "INCEST". The "WNC wifebeaters"....that has a nice ring to it....... By the way: For those of you who thing Catfisting is something I made up......look up the word "Noodling". It's the same thing. |

Well, if I ever want to hear more news from under the table, I certainly cannot tell where it came from but let's just say it was from some pretty good
sources. With a few things that have happened recently in the ECHL and the article stating that the league would like hockey back in Greenville &
Greensboro just falls right into place with the rumors..... I just hope in comes to pass and in a timely manner...! I was also fishing to see if anyone heard
anything along these lines.

Just to add fuel to the rumor fire..........I was talking to some people at a Greenville Drive game that would go to the Grrrowl games as much as all of us use
to and what they had heard was Charlotte was going to bid for a AHL team, so the ECHL franchise might possibly move to Greenville.
I am sure that is just a bunch of bull........but just what I heard. |

I don't think that Carl Scheer would be welcomed back in Greenville with another franchise. And even though I would love to have hockey here, I would find
it hard to give him my money.

Hockey teams don't have team chaplains, they have team bartenders. ------------- If what I do offends others, so be it. That's their problem. |

Well.......seeing Carl does not own that franchise anymore (he is a "Special Consultant") that probably would not be an issue. But as I
said.........this is probably just a bunch of Bull S#%t any way.

I've also heard rumors that Gwinnett will make a bid to be an AHL team. So that would make two ECHL teams that could find homes in the SE.
With the way all the leagues are changing, who knows.

Please let Greenville get another team. I personally don't care about arena football and I know that the BLC needs another good tenant. I have heard the
rumors also but I usually don't pay attention unless something is published. If anyone sees confirmation please let me know. The only other sport that
would possibly do well would be indoor lacrosse because of the high schools in the area starting lacrosse teams. Or soccer. But hopefully hockey!

I would go see indoor lacrosse.

As much as I hate to say it...........we will never see hockey in Greenville again. I think we would have already if it were coming back.
I hope I am wrong, but do not think so. |

Hockey back in Greenville would be awesome | ||

I am a hockey fan from Germany living in Greenville. I had to drive by myself to Charlotte or Charleston to see some hockey. I would purchase a season ticket
when a team returns to Greenville!

Charlotte wants to move up to the AHL? They need to ask Greensboro how that jump to the AHL worked out for them.
And if you REALLY want to see sparse attendance at the Bankrupt Grocer Center, bring indoor lacrosse. That would be a worse draw than that former minor-league basketball team! I've seen minor-league indoor lacrosse. It's not all that. Plus, it was tried in Charlotte -- one and done. I'd love to see hockey back in Greenville too, and would drive down from the Hickory area for at least one game a year. But until then, I'm stuck with one Checkers game a year -- while holding my nose as my money goes in their "special consultant's" pocket.
